50s Eichler Home Cold War Atomic Scare Mid Century Modern Brass Door Knocker Rare Rare, Vintage, Fun, 1950s, Model Home, Original, Cold War, Atomic Era "Live Better Electrically" like Ronald Reagan, Solid Brass, Mid Century Modern Door Knocker. This was a big campaign featuring actor Ronald Reagan. This door knocker told your neighbors you lived in a modern, All-American, all electric dream house of the future! This front door hardware, is etched with an image of a nuclear family, basking in front of beaming rays of hope, was one of several display pieces, for a National campaign called, "Live Better Electrically" This door knocker, medallions and placards were placed on newly built "All-Electric", 50s and 60s model "Homes of the Future" The knocker is a fabulous, iconic and fun piece of historically, era-correct, entrance hardware. It captures the idealism of the country when your MCM home was built and is an instant, fun front entrance conversation starter. The door knocker was one of several items created for a campaign called "LIVE BETTER ELECTRICALLY" including brass medallions and placards. These newly built modern homes, proudly displayed these campaign items, indicating they were "All-Electric" Homes of the Future" and the homes were declared as "Gold Medallion Award Winning Homes." The campaign, was an advertising bonanza of optimism and consumerism, captivating a country besieged by decades of economic depression and war. Starting in the 1950s, aided by GI Bills funding home ownership, a nation became pumped with renewed optimism, economic prosperity and a hunger for suburban life in appliance-filled, sprawling homes. A message that permeated print and TV ads and was even the theme that captivated millions at the '64-'65 World's Fair. The logo for the campaign, as seen on this door knocker, is a All American nuclear family, with rays of light around them with the promise of a happy tomorrow. Very few still exist This one, never used, comes complete with the original box and paper work.
