A large 23" high ceramic planter by noted potter David Fernandez/Seagrove Pottery, North Carolina, USA. Here is the essence of his work in his own words: "By combining simple forms, a carved surface, unique colors and gravity I have developed an individual look that is easily recognizable. My collectors comment that my pottery looks “quietly beautiful”. I could not wish for a better compliment. For the past forty five plus years, clay has been and always will be my passion. The vessels I make are influenced from Mycenaean, Greek, Egyptian pottery; as well as modern American Indian pottery. I take a purist approach, mixing all my clay and glazes from formulas I have developed. I designed and built the kiln I fire my pieces in. I like glazes to move and run on the surface of the forms in a controlled way. I have fine-tuned the firing of the kiln to insured my wide variety of colors, especially difficult reds and purples. I Graduated from Whitman College in the State of Washington with a B.A. in Art and Mathematics with honors in art. I received a Craft Fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts, Visual Arts in Schools Program. In 1978 I became Director of the Kimball Art Center, in Park City, Utah. I have been a full time professional artist specializing in wheel turned stoneware vessels since 1980."
