Amazing Original 2007 Richard Estes Museum Realism Exhibition Lithograph Poster "Telephone Booths" 1967 New York City. Published by the exhibition's host, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Madrid, Spain, in partnership with the iconic Marlborough Gallery of New York City. This bank of phones was located at the intersection of Broadway, Sixth Avenue and 34th Street in Manhattan. One can even see, in the reflective glass, the store signs of Macy’s and Woolworth's. Realism or Ultra, Hyper Realism, became a modernist trend in the 1960s-70s by several iconic 20th century painters. Estes' work was considered the the best examples of the movement I had the privilege of seeing this enormous, breathtaking painting, as a very young person, at an exhibition of Estes' work, at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. The original was so captivating, that over 50 years later, l can still remember how completely mesmerized l was by this magical "photograph" created with paint. Oversized, fascinating, and extraordinary interpretation of the ordinary, in 1967 Midtown Manhattan.
